Posted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 10:20:00 AM

WatchGuard Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, today at RSA and CeBIT unveiled a new, state of the art series of multifunction security appliances the WatchGuard XTM 5 Series. Ideal for mid-market enterprise organizations with up to 1,500 users, the WatchGuard XTM 5 Series resets the definition of high-security and performance for protecting commercial networks, applications and data.

"Next generation threats and regulatory compliance pressures are forcing businesses to recalibrate and recalculate risk management practices," said Eric Aarrestad, Vice President of Marketing at WatchGuard Technologies. "Facing pressures to reduce IT costs and complexities, while increasing protection is a challenge. The WatchGuard XTM 5 Series is the ideal solution for growing businesses and mid-tier enterprise organizations that need powerful protection that is flexible, scalable and affordable."

WatchGuard XTM 5 Series - High Performance, Strong Security
Leveraging a battle-tested and enterprise proven Intel-based architecture, the WatchGuard XTM 5 Series provides fast 2.3 Gbps firewall throughput, with an astounding 800 Mbps throughput with all security features (gateway antivirus, IPS/IDS, web-blocking and URL filtering) activated. No other security appliance offers this level of full security throughput and performance at the WatchGuard XTM 5 Series price.

In addition to powerful performance, the XTM 5 Series sports "defense-in-depth" protection, which combines deep packet inspection, stateful packet inspection and proxy technologies, to provide full, application layer content inspection and protection against threats that fly by other firewalls.

Powered by an operating system, Fireware XTM, built from the ground up for high security, the new XTM 5 Series can tackle threats like no other. Capable of blocking Skype and other high risk IM and peer to peer clients, the XTM 5 Series eliminates threats from unauthorized websites, hidden attacks buried in HTTPS packets, and stops next generation threats, such as VoIP or unified communication hacks.

The XTM 5 Series offers advanced networking features, which make it an ideal solution for complex network environments. The XTM 5 Series can be clustered, and includes active-active high availability with load balancing to ensure maximum uptime. Additionally, WAN and VPN failover increases performance, redundancy and overall reliability. Any of its seven ports can be configured as Internal, External or Optional, making the appliance extremely flexible for any business need.

Recognizing that management and reporting is critical for security professionals and IT administrators, the WatchGuard XTM 5 Series includes for free advanced management and reporting tools. With options such as a web-based UI or CLI management interface, administrators can use the tools that they prefer for maximum interoperability and integration into existing infrastructures. Role-based access control and multi-box management features provide greater granularity and detailed control.

Lastly, the XTM 5 Series includes WatchGuard's award winning, drag-and-drop SSL VPN technology. For businesses that want to provide secure network access to remote and mobile workers, the integrated VPN technology in the WatchGuard XTM 5 Series provides up to 750 Mbps VPN throughput to keep workers productive and secure. Aarrestad concludes, "The XTM 5 Series rounds-out a complete platform of multifunction firewalls, spanning small businesses with the XTM 2 Series, all the way up to enterprise and data center environments with the new XTM 8 Series and XTM 10 Series. With XTM appliances, customers can choose which protection features they want in one appliance for their business it's not an 'all or nothing' proposition. The key is, now they have a choice to optimize network, application and data security with the right set of XTM appliances."
