One Year Since Acquiring BorderWare, WatchGuard Sees Worldwide Demand Increasing for Integrated DLP, Web Content and E-mail Security Appliances

- August 23, 2010. WatchGuard Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, today announced that in the one year since acquiring BorderWare Technologies, the company has experienced substantial worldwide demand for integrated security appliances to thwart corporate data loss, minimize web-based threats and eradicate e-mail spam and related viruses.

"Extending WatchGuard's award-winning network security offerings to encompass Web, messaging and data loss prevention (DLP) was the driving force behind the BorderWare acquisition," said Eric Aarrestad, Vice President of Marketing at WatchGuard Technologies. "Today, customers can have both state of the art multifunction firewall protection and unbeatable Web, messaging and DLP security that is affordable, powerful, highly reliable and easy to use."

WatchGuard XCS Solutions Tomorrow's Threat Protection for Today

WatchGuard Extensible Content Security (XCS) solutions deliver unsurpassed e-mail protection, web security, and data loss prevention. With six different models to choose from, XCS appliances meet stringent messaging security requirements for businesses of all sizes, including solutions to protect the world's most demanding e-mail and web networks.

Designed for enterprise environments, WatchGuard XCS 770, 970 and 1170 XCS appliances are easy-to-use, unified e-mail security, privacy, and compliance solutions. They protect against inbound e-mail threats and control outbound information to prevent data loss. Business networks gain protection from spam, viruses, malware, blended threats, spyware, and phishing attacks, as well as automated security to control and eliminate sensitive data leakage. An optional WatchGuard Web Security subscription extends these capabilities across web traffic as well, for comprehensive protection.

WatchGuard XCS 170, 370, and 570 appliances are ideal solutions for small to mid-sized businesses that need rock solid anti-spam and e-mail threat protection, as well as data loss prevention capabilities to stop accidental or malicious data leakage. Like their enterprise counterparts, bi-directional protection can be extended across all web traffic via an optional Web Security subscription, which provides complete and comprehensive protection for SMBs.

All WatchGuard XCS appliances include centralized management and reporting tools without requiring additional management servers. This further reduces costs and management requirements and provides greater visibility and control of incoming and outgoing e-mail and web traffic. XCS appliances include multiple layers of redundancy to ensure continuity of communications. Having this assures that no messages are ever lost and that e-mail protection is always up and running.

Reputation Enabled Defense In the Cloud Security that Stops Next Generation Attacks

Free with all XCS appliances, Reputation Enabled Defense delivers highly secure web browsing experiences via a cloud-based reputation lookup that scores URLs as either good, bad or unknown. The lookup leverages a dynamic global database that aggregates data from multiple feeds, including industry-leading anti-virus engines. URLs with bad reputations are immediately blocked. URLs with unknown reputations are scanned by WatchGuard XCS appliances to ensure that they are malware free, and URLs with good reputations are accelerated through the WatchGuard appliances. This significantly boosts web traffic performance over the network while keeping employees safe from drive-by-downloads and other web-based attacks. Employees will appreciate noticeably faster web surfing speeds thanks to Reputation Enabled Defense. With it, browsing is accelerated by eliminating the need to scan all web traffic for threats. Up to 50 percent of on-appliance URL scanning can be avoided without compromising security, resulting in greater throughput at the gateway and more efficient use of appliance resources.
