WatchGuard XTM Appliances Underpin New Managed Security Solutions for SMEs

November 22, 2010. WatchGuard Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, announced that the WatchGuard XTM 2 and XTM 5 integrated security appliances have been selected by Telekom Deutschland as key components of its new Managed Security Services (MSS) aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises. The new 'Business Network Protect' service from Deutsche Telekom Technischer Service GmbH (DTTS) combines the XTM hardware firewall with WatchGuard's suite of antivirus, anti-spam, application control, web-filtering and intrusion protection along with its range of modular managed services for seamless installation, configuration and operation.

Telekom Deutschland has been selling WatchGuard's trademark red Unified Threat Management (UTM) products for more than ten years and this latest agreement to integrate the next generation XTM (eXtensible Threat Management) appliances into its new managed services portfolio after extensive evaluation, further strengthens the partnership between the two companies.

"Security is a critical issue for any size of organization and SMEs face the same challenge as larger enterprises; to respond to increasing threats in the form of malware, hackers and botnets, while keeping IT costs and complexity under control," says Eric Aarrestad, Vice President of Marketing at WatchGuard Technologies. "The WatchGuard XTM 2 and XTM 5 solutions specifically address the security needs of small to medium-sized enterprises and are ideally matched to the aims of the DTTS in the development of its new Business Network Protect service."

The high-end, standardized, security solution has been implemented successfully with several pilot customers. Individual functions can be combined seamlessly to meet customers' requirements; there are three service levels to choose from, ranging from the 'S' package with basic management capabilities, to the complete operating solution. This supports mobile and remote working with the use of smartphones and laptops as well as the integration of Web 2.0 applications for cross-company collaboration with a network of suppliers, partner companies and remote branches.

With more day-to-day business interaction and the use social networking in the workplace, it is increasingly important to protect sensitive information. WatchGuard products prevent security attacks using specific VOIP proxies over Unified Communication Systems while the integrated WebBlocker service is capable of blocking high-risk messaging and Peer2Peer connections and also detects encoded attacks.
