Just seven months on the market, WatchGuard's advanced malware solution wins against industry-leading solutions such as FireEye, Fortinet's FortiSandbox and Palo Alto's WildFire

SEATTLE - October 16, 2014 - WatchGuard Technologies, a leader in multi-function firewalls, today announced that APT Blocker has been named the 2014 Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) Security Solution of the Year by the Computing Security Awards. The Awards are voted on by the public and recognize the most impressive solutions and solution-providers in the fight against today's security threats. APT Blocker, which is available on WatchGuard's Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW) and Unified Threat Management (UTM) platforms, was recognized for delivering real-time advanced threat and zero-day malware detection and analysis, beating out other solutions from Check Point, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks and FireEye.

"Today's advanced attacks go beyond signature-based security and pose a significant risk to today's businesses. Organizations need dynamic security solutions that can expose evasive behavior and provide rapid detection," said Dave R. Taylor, vice president of corporate and product strategy at WatchGuard. "APT Blocker takes over where AV protection leaves off, and through its integration with WatchGuard Dimension, gives organizations unmatched visibility to fight these advanced threats. We're excited to be the first solution recognized by the Computing Security Awards for Best APT Security Solution."

APT Blocker delivers real-time threat visibility and protection in minutes, not hours, focusing on behavioral analysis to determine if a file is malicious. It identifies and submits suspicious files to a cloud-based next-generation sandbox, a virtual environment where code is analyzed, emulated and executed to determine its threat potential. This full-system emulation provides the deepest level of visibility possible and is the most difficult for advanced malware to evade. APT Blocker also integrates with WatchGuard Dimension, providing an instant, single view of advanced threats along with additional key information.
